Color Design

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Choosing the clothing you will wear for your portrait session is extremely important because it defines the color scheme of the image. Neutral tones tend to work best because they allow your skin tone and facial expressions to be the focus of the image. Neutral schemes don’t distract from your face and are a timeless way to commemorate this moment. Cathy really likes white, black, grey and pink with no patterns.

Home Décor

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Choosing the color scheme of your portrait session should complement the décor in your home. So, consider where you plan to hang a portrait. What is the style of the décor? What are the color tones of the room? Coordinating what you wear in the portrait session to the place where you plan to display the images will make the art seamlessly integrate with the space and look customized for your home.

Clothing Style

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Consider:
•Sleeve -No sleeves, spaghetti straps
•Collar Design- Simple is better
•Fabric Pattern – No pattern is better
•Adornment – Anything with sparkles or lace
•Texture – Sheer, lace, silk, linen and cotton.
•Flow – Chiffon or tulle
•Fit – Too loose or too small will adds pounds in-camera.

Browns & Light Neutrals

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

In this example, you can see how well browns and neutrals mix to put the focus on the woman being photographed. A mix of dark browns, creams and black combined with a neutral background creates an image that has contrast, but not so much that you are distracted form her. She is wearing a lacy cream bra with black boy shorts. The image tones are anchored by the light skin tones. This image makes you to look at curves and the lines. This neutral pallet is perfect!

Mid-Tone Neutrals

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Neutrals come in several flavors and sticking with the mid-range is a lovely way to complement your décor. This look is sure to coordinate with any home and is a tried-and-true method for creating a striking portrait. Both of these images show white and off white with neutral brown.

Greys & Brown Neutrals

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Richer tones create a warm inviting look to your portraits that convey elegance. If the room you plan to hang a portrait in has deeper hues, choosing a color scheme with darker hues is a great choice. Dark blue, cool greys and navy blues work well here and we’ve combined delicious textures to create an image with a lot of interest. The morning light accentuated this neutral blue pallet.

Navy & Grey Neutrals

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Adding contrast to an image with navy blue and gray creates a striking difference between the skin tones and clothing/background. While blues are cooler, skin tones are warmer and this contrast in color temperatures makes the warm tones pop off the page. And when that happens, faces are what stand out. Here, this woman is dressed in a gorgeous, strappy, navy-colored bra set that does with no pattern. “Strappy” is in right now but will stand the test of time. Using a cool palette is a great way to draw attention to sultry expressions.

Pinks & Neutrals

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Muted tones create an inviting look to your portraits that convey elegance. If the room you plan to hang a portrait has dark hues, choosing a color scheme with lighter hues is a great choice. Pink, beige, gray and white work well and we’ve combined the delicious texture of satin with lace and flowers to create images with a lot of interest.

Gold and Beige Neutrals

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

In this pallet you can see its almost all one color with various darker tones. This was a fun image to create! This monochromatic pallet lets you focus on what the woman is doing and sets a mood. In editing more color was added artistically to make this more into fine art

Creams

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

When an image is made in bright light is looks naturally angelic and innocent. Creams and soft whites bring forth this emotion beautifully and offer a light, bright and ethereal look. It’s important when coordinating a monochromatic look to incorporate texture in the clothing for more interest. Again coordinating outfits, but not perfectly matching are the key to this look. The light tones in this image create a neutral and even palette that makes her face stand out.

Muted Greens

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

In this example, greens that are reminiscent of a forest combine with neutral browns to create a warm image that has an earthy feeling to it. She is wearing a beautiful green spaghetti strap gown that is solid colored with lace texture on the bodice. It is simple and there is no pattern in the fabric which takes your eyes away from what she wanted to be the focus. The pallet is set to show off the color pop from the balloons and lollipop
