We are so happy you chose to trust us with your photography needs! You can trust that all of the images we put out are finished to look the style of what we do. We want to give you more information on our editing and retouching. Editing can take hours and sometimes days per image depending on what you need or want.

Every type of session we that offer the post processing begins with Cathy culling. She goes through all of images and remove images with blinking eyes, duplicates, etc. and narrows it down to the better images. For example, she may have taken 300 images but some of those are her testing the light. Part of her creative process is to play where she photographs at different exposure, angles, lighting, etc. She may have taken 5 shots just to get the best 2 or 3 images. Culling is important because it allows you to see your best images. After the first round of going through all the images the next step is to back through for the editing.

Editing involves the stylizing of every image. The images are all worked image by image and enhanced. Colors are kept consistent and vary from natural to artistic depending on the type of session and your goals. She then edits to color, black and white, boosts or decrease the color, play with exposure, white balance, crop, straighten, sharpen, do raw processing and conversion for you to be able to print your photos. This is included as part of the process and included with all of your images.

When you come in to the viewing appointment you will see your images at this level of editing. These images are the digital negatives that you will be shown. You choose only the images you want or get them all. You choose what you want printed, worked into an album and/or your digitals. You can even take home your digital images right there and then (with the minimum purchase).

Basic retouching is the next step of processing and is only included with glamour, boudoir, headshot and senior sessions. The retouching is done before your viewing appointment. This level of retouching includes basic skin cleanup, basic smoothing, softening, minor modifications and sharpening.

Full retouching is where even more is done to an image. For example, taking larger blemishes away, darker bruising, thinning out stomach, arms or legs. This is much more labor intensive and should be done to the images that you care about most. Your purchased albums, books and wall portraits are taken to this level of retouching and is included as part of the process of creating your art pieces.

Advanced retouching is something you an add on to any image and comes in when you need or want more editing. It involves extensive skin retouching, medium to large tattoo removal, full body enhancement and body shape modification. It can take hours to work on an image to get it just right.

Extensive editing and photo manipulation is usually done to create a fine art wall portrait or graphic design for your business or website. It may involve several sessions to manipulate photos together or you may have an image you would like to be worked into fine art. You can also decide to put more work into an image for an album that would look its best with an extensive edit. This editing involves specialty editing, compositing, head swaps, background swaps, large object removal.

Let me give you an example of different editing levels using one image. I decided to use this as an example because I had permission to share and I had already taken it to a fine art edit. I would NOT have shown this image to the client without doing my artistic edit. This particular image I saw in my mind before I took it. I couldn’t move the furniture so I decided to take it knowing it would be a heavy edit. If she saw this straight out of camera she probably would think I was nuts for taking it with all the distractions around her. Most likely she probably wouldn’t choose this image to be the only one she wanted on the wall because most people don’t know what I can do with it through editing. The image I had in my mind I decided to create for her viewing session because I couldn’t help but work up the image. I dug up the original to show you and then took worked back through different steps to show levels of editing ending back up with my fine art edit.
